McSpankWich Aug 31, 2005Plum Island Animal Disease Research Center. Sounds charming. What is Samurai Siege and why should I waste my valuable toilet time on it?Samurai Siege is a free to play iOS and Android base building/raiding/alliance warring game much like Clash of Clans or Castle Clash. The goal is basically to accumulate/steal resources in order to make your stuff bigger and stronger in order to steal more resources to make your stuff bigger and stronger in order to steal more resources in order to make your stuff bigger and stronger, eventually you will be able to steal a lot of resources, and make your stuff really big and strong. The goal of all this is to make your stuff really big and strong and steal of a lot of resources.Where the goons at?There is currently only one Goon alliance to join, Mangosteen.
You are free to join as soon as you install the game, unfortunately you cannot participate in Alliance wars, or donate/receive troops until you repair your Alliance portal, which we will get to eventually. Unfortunately there is no way to customize your recruit message to us, so you must post your in-game name in this thread in order to be invited. There is an old man telling me to build things and kill people ohgodwhatdoidoThe tutorial is generally pretty good, concentrate on building up some armies and running through the single player campaign to unlock more troops and defenses.
Unlike CoC and other games, the defenses and troops you have access to are not regulated by your Castle Level only. You must unlock a majority of the units and structures through the single player campaign.
I would focus on upgrading your Essence Wells, Markets, and Storages first, as they tend to produce a relative crapton of resources as you're starting out, much more than you will get from raiding low level players. The single player campaign rewards a ton of resources relative to multiplayer until much higher castle levels, so not only is it worth doing to unlock stuff, but the resource rewards are substantial as well.ResourcesJade CoinsCoins are used to upgrade your Castle, defensive structures, your Alliance portal, walls, essence wells/storages, and produce magic scrolls. You can earn more by collecting it from Markets, earning it in the single player campaign, or stealing it from other players.EssenceEssence is used for unit and scroll upgrades, as well as upgrading your Markets and Coin Storages. Troop related structures such as dojos, practice yards, and the blacksmith also require essence to upgrade. You also need essence to produce troops. You can get it by collecting it from Essence Wells, earning it in the single player campaign, or stealing it from other players.DiamondsThis is the IAP currency of the game, used to make basically anything instantly, troops, buildings, or upgrades.
You can also use them create more carpenters for your village, which is their best use by far. You earn 10 diamonds each your Alliance levels up, and 20 for winning an Alliance war.
The top two (maybe 4) war point earners in the war will earn 40 gems.BuildingsCastleThis is the main structure of your village, as you upgrade it, you are able to make more of everything, as well as upgrade everything higher that already exists. It holds a small amount of Coins/Essence, and must be destroyed in order to gain one of the possible stars in a raid.
An important note is that your build list will say that you can build something such as the Freeze Tower at Castle Level 3. However unless you unlock the freeze tower via the single player campaign, you won't be able to build it regardless of your castle level. The CarpenterThe carpenter houses your friends who build your village for you. The more carpenters you have, the more buildings you can upgrade at once. You must have a free carpenter to upgrade walls. Structure can only be upgraded via Diamonds. You should be able to get three almost immediately, and then save up for four eventually for 2,000 diamonds through Alliance wars. Or just buying them.Resource StructuresMarkets and Essence WellsThese guys sit around and produce Jade Coins and Essence for you in real time.
The speed they produce and the amount they can store increases as you level them up, to a max of 10,800/hr and 540,000 at level 11. Unlike CoC, they continue to produce as they are being upgraded, meaning the only downside to upgrading them is lost production time of other buildings. It's a good idea to get these as high as possible along with storages at low Castle levels, as they can produce a lot of resources in comparison to collectors in CoC. You can create the maximum number of these (6) at Castle level 6, and their maximum level is unlocked at castle level 7.StoragesThe Coin Vault and Essence Storage are where your resources go once you collect, steal, or earn it. Their max level is 11, which can be made at castle level 7. At max level they'll store 7.2 million of whichever resource they house. At Castle level 3, you can build a second storage of each type, a third at castle level 8, and a fourth at clvl 9.
Your maximum resource capacity is 28.8 Million (!!) of each resource.DefensesArcher TowerThis is your main defensive structure, you can have 9 of them at max level. Needs to be unlocked via the campaign mission 'Focus, Focus, Focus!' You will do this almost immediately. At level 5, you can choose one of two types of special attacks to add to the tower (or not add anything), either Fire Arrows or Heavy Arrows. Fire arrows do 10% less damage than regular arrows, but add splash damage.
These are good for repelling large groups of Samurai, Archers, or Ninjas. Heavy Arrows fire 375% slower, but do 3.75x the damage of regular arrows. They can 1shot Samurai, Ninja, Archers, Mongols, and Rams. 2shot Essence masters, and 3/4 shot Oni Trolls depending on level. It's good to have a mix of both types in your base unless you are trying to repel a specific type of attack for some reason. The power of each special ability can be upgraded as well as the archer tower itself. The special abilities have a max level of 6, adding an additional 7dps in splash for fire arrows, and an additional 90% damage on heavy arrows.
You can identify which type of tower your opponent has by the little flags hanging from the top of the tower.CannonYour cannon is your AoE defensive structure, at level 1 they deal 14.4 damage per shot, up to a max of 44.28 damage at their max level of 7, which can be unlocked at Castle level 9. You can have two cannons at clvl 5, and the max of 3 at clvl 7. You must complete the mission 'Cannon Chaos' in order to unlock them for your base. Cannons are very good at killing groups of low level troops such as Samurai, Archers, and Ninja. They are also good at killing higher level troops if given the right support (Freeze traps/towers and Ice Shot). Like Archer towers, you can add a special ability to them if you choose, which is Ice Shot. Ice Shot does 10% less damage than standard, but adds a chance to freeze all troops it hits.
Initially, it's only an 8% chance to freeze for 0.6 seconds, which is pretty lackluster. However at max level it has a 21% chance to freeze for 2 seconds. Meaning it's possible to freeze troops in place entirely until they die if you get lucky. You can see if your opponent is using freeze cannons based on a little blue flag above the cannon itself.Assassin's DenThe Assassin's Den is interesting, as it's really more of a trap rather than a defensive structure. You unlock it via the single player mission 'Den of Assassins' It's invisible to attackers, and when enemies get within range of it, it pops open and out pour 2-6 assassins (depending on the level of the den). They do an absurd amount of short range splash damage, 1shotting giant groups of clustered enemy troops.
Then they sit there for like 3 seconds and do nothing and die. If they happen to kill a whole group and don't get fired upon, they can run and kill another group of guys. The drawback is that it costs a ton of Essence to refill them (40,000 at level 1, and 225,000 at level 5) so it may or may not be worth it to you to refill them every time once you see how they generally work.
Still pretty cool though.Freeze TowerThe Freeze Tower does exactly what it says, freezes troops in it's radius, completely immobilizing them and doing a small amount of damage. Dragons cannot be frozen. They are unlocked via the campaign mission 'Frozen Secret.' It's splash radius is 1.5 tiles, and it shoots every 4 seconds. As you upgrade it, the freeze duration and damage increase. At max level it freezes for 3.5 seconds, and does 28 damage.
You unlock your second at clvl 6, and get your max of 3 at clvl 9.Lightning TowerThe Lightning Tower shoots lighting. That's basically it. The bolt will bounce to a number of extra targets. They are initally built at clvl 5, you get your second at clvl 7, and your third at clvl 9. They do 33 damage per shot initially, and at max level 108. They also deal extra damage to advanced units (healers, essence masters, trolls, and commanders).Drum GunThe Drum Gun is a low damage, but rapid fire long range gun.
It chews through archers/samurai/ninja, but is less effective against units with higher HP and Mongols. Usually kept close to the center of the base, as it's constant fire is better the longer it survives.THE JAAAAADE LIONNNNThe Jade Lion is a lion statue that sits in your base, and then comes alive and goes on a murderous rampage. They are unlocked via the 'Mysterious Statues' mission in single player. Once your Alliance reaches a certain level, you can purchase decoy lions from the Decor area in order to confuse attackers. The Lion does a decent amount of damage, and has a nice amount of hp as well. You can get your first one at clvl 6, and 2nd at clvl 7.
You can have 1 decoy lion at clvl 3, 2 at clvl 6, 3 at clvl 7, and 4 at clvl 8. Basically you toss lions all over the drat place and two of them will kill people.TrapsFreeze TrapFreeze traps freeze people who step on it for 7(!!) seconds in a 4 tile radius. They own pretty hard. They cost 3,000 coins to refill. You get your first one at clvl 3, your 2nd at clvl 6, and your 3rd at clvl 8. They cannot be upgraded, but they have an ability like archer towers/cannons and can be turned into a.Lightning TrapLightning Traps shoot a blast of lightning that bounces between troops when triggered, and just like the lightning tower they do extra damage to advanced troops.
Initially the Lightning traps do a crapton of damage, but since they can't be upgraded, the freeze traps are much better in the end.Bomb TrapThe Bomb trap is three sticks of dynamite tied together. It explodes and does a moderate amount of damage. They cost 3,000 coins to refill. Initially they are grossly powerful, and will horribly destroy giant swathes of troops. However, like the Lightning trap, they cannot be upgraded, and the damage they do eventually becomes paltry.
You can have one at clvl 3, and two at clvl 7.WallsWalls enclose your stuff keeping them from being attacked for at time. Archers can fire over them, earthquake scrolls and rams can destroy them. Just like CoC, walls are horrrendously expensive, topping out at 7.2 MILLION coins PER SEGMENT to upgrade. Unlike CoC they can be selected in angled groups as well as straight lines, and can be upgraded in groupsArmy StructuresPractice YardsPractice Yards hold your guys while you're not attacking, and control your max army size.
Want more guys to attack with? Build more/better Practice YardsDojosDojos control the actual training of your units. Since all offensive units except the Samurai are unlocked via the single player campaign, the only reason to upgrade your dojos is that you can hold more units in queue. If you're a horrible sperglord such as myself, you queue up long train time troops before your attack, letting them build during the time your attack is taking place, and then add more once your attack concludes, getting around the need to upgrade them to their max level.tAlliance PortalYou'll see this thing broken down on the side of the map when you first start, once you repair it you can donate/receive troops from your Alliance, and participate in Alliance Wars. The construction time on this is generally much faster than your average structure of equal level, and upgrading controls how many troops you can get from your friendly Alliance membersBlacksmithYou can upgrade your standard units, and your units abilities here.
Upgrades own, and are well worth the absurd cost. The blacksmith contains the upgrades for your Samurai, Ninja, Rams, Commanders, Archers, Oni Trolls, and Mongols. Along with the upgrades for their special abilities.Ancient TempleThe Ancient Temple is a busted tree thing that's in the northern corner of the map when you first create your village.
The upgrades for your scrolls (detailed below) and magical units are done in this structure. Magical units are Healers, Essence Masters, and Dragons.Scroll StatueThe Scroll Statue allows you to create spells that do various things during your attacks. As you upgrade your scroll statue, the amount of scrolls you can hold, and queue up, increases.
The available scrolls are as follows:Fire:Rains meteors on a specific location, generally pretty lackluster, as it does minimal damage over an extended period of time. Kind of like the Lightning spell in CoC, however takes a lot longer to cast so isn't very good at killing Alliance Portal troops, and therefore useless.Freeze Scroll:Freezes enemy defensive structures (and portal troops) for a time. As you upgrade the scroll, the freeze radius and duration increases. Awesome.Snowball Scroll:The dumbest poo poo ever, also the only scroll that needs to be unlocked via a mission in the single player campaign. I'm not sure I can quite express how terrible this scroll is, but you'll see when you do the mission, so I guess there's that.Earthquake Scroll:This scroll creates an earthquake which destroys walls(!!) and stuns portal troops for a decent amount of time afterwards. These are really awesome, moreso for the wall destruction than the troop stun.Unit TypesSamuraiYour basic attack unit, the only unit you'll have unlocked from the very start.
Cheap to produce, and great in groups. They can be given FLAMING SWORDS which do 20% less damage, but have a 25% chance to do AoE damage to their target, the amount of which (between 6 and 40 additional damage) can be upgraded at the blacksmith. The ability generally is only good on defense, as the buildings they're attacking on offense are too far apart to be effected by splash. They take up one spot in the practice yard.NinjaNinja are the second troops you unlock in the game, after the single player mission 'Ninja Stronghold.' They are cheap move really fast, prioritize resource buildings (Wells, Markets, and Storages), and do 4x damage to such buildings.
Once all the resource structures are gone, they will go after regular buildings. If backed up by other troops, and not hindered by walls, they can basically strip a base of all it's lootables extremely quickly. They can be given the ability to throw ninja stars via the blacksmith, which basically just targets a random troop or building and does some damage to it.
Pretty cool, they take up one spot in the practice yard.RamsThe Ram is a group of four dudes with hammers carrying an exploding battering ram. They are unlocked in the single player mission 'One Smoking Barrel.' The cool thing is that once the ram hits a wall and explodes (or is destroyed before it gets there) it deploys the four hammer guys which proceed to attack the nearest structure. They don't really do much damage, but will distract defenses and help kill stuff as an added bonus. They are more easily controlled than wallbreakers in CoC, as they always go in a straight line towards the nearest wall, instead of just picking poo poo at random and blowing up in useless places gently caress I HATE WALLBREAKERS SOMETIMES.
They take up 5 spots in the practice yard, and have no special abilities as of yet.CommandersCommanders move really slowly, do a decent amount of damage, and most importantly, instruct nearby units to change their priority to defensive structures, instead of the closest structure. They're unlocked via single player mission 'Free the Commanders.' They can control a larger number of troops based on their level, starting out at 5, and topping out at 16. Their ability is Rush Commander, which not only has the troops they control prioritize defenses, but also doubles their movement and attack speed for 2 seconds, but reduces the amount of troops it effects by 3, and reduces the commanders health by 20%. As you upgrade the ability, it increases the frequency at which is activates, and decreases the commanders health reduction.
They take up 5 slots in the practice yard.ArchersThe Archer is unlocked in the single player mission 'Tree of Knowledge.' They do less damage and have less HP than Samurai, but can fire over walls at a pretty good range. They have no special abilities as of yet. They take up one spot in the practice yard.MongolsMongols are awesome. They're basically super Samurai. They do more damage, have higher HP, and have a sweet innate ability called Negate Damage, which reduces the damage they take from low damage per shot defenses such as archer towers, fire archer towers, cannons, and drum guns. Heavy Arrows will still one shot them in most cases though.
As you upgrade them, the damage reduction increases along with their offensive damage and HP, topping out at 12 damage per shot getting absorbed. I basically stopped using Samurai when I unlocked these guys. They don't have any upgradable special abilities as of yet, and take up 2 spots in the practice yard.Oni TrollsThe Oni Trolls are big, fat, blue, giants with huge clubs. They move very slow, have very high HP, and do a tremendous amount of damage. They take up 5 slots in your yard, and cost a lot to train. They are unlocked via the mission 'Prison Riot.' They move the same speed as commanders, which is pretty cool, as a group of trolls along with a rush commander, will basically stay together the entire time they are deployed.
They don't have any special abilities as of yet, and take up five spots in the practice yard.HealersHealers float around and heal your dudes. They are unlocked via the mission 'A Daring Rescue.' They radiate a healing wave type thing from themselves that heals all units in range. As you upgrade them they heal more, and they generally heal the same amount of damage that a cannon does at equal levels. They don't have any special abilities as of yet, and take up 10 spots in your yard.Essence MastersUnlocked via the 'Temple Challenge' mission in single player, this old dude shoots lighting out of his hands. The lightning he shoots bounces to nearby units and structures, damaging up to three things at once. They tear through bases in large groups, but have low HP and need to be defended.
They have no special abilities, and take up 15 spots in your yard.Essence DragonsThey warp around, breathe fire, and do retarded amount of splash damage. The radius is 3.2 tiles, from a range of 3 tiles. You cannot build them unless you have 800 honor. They cannot be frozen by freeze traps or towers, and cannot be healed by healers. They have no special abilities and take up 20 spots in your yard.AttackingSingle Player CampaignAs you've learned above, the single player campaign is required to unlock basically everything in the game. You also earn a good amount of resources per mission, making it a nice place to generate income to boot. Some British guy made a bunch of walkthroughs for every mission on youtube if you're having trouble.
There are also various checkpoints that require you to pay a certain amount of Coins/Essence or have a certain amount of honor in order to proceed past them.MultiplayerAttack other player bases using all the troops at your disposal. You can click next on the bottom of the screen to cycle through opponents until you find one you think you'll be able to successfully attack. The cost of nexting increases every Castle level.
Troops used in battle are gone forever regardless of if they survive or not.HonorYou need to get at least 1 star to win a battle, stars are earned three ways: Destroying the enemy castle, destroying 50% of the base, and destroying 100% of the base, for a max of three stars. Trophies are generally useless, except in matching you up opponents. Though I'm not sure how true that is, as sometimes I'll be nexting through opponents and run into somehow who is just starting with like 300 available resources and 1 archer tower. As stated above, you must make it to a certain honor level to advance in the single player campaign, and therefore unlock more stuffs. Once you achieve that level however, you can feel free to drop back down to whatever you want. You also need a minimum of 800 honor to produce dragons in your Dojos.
When you are deciding whether or not to attack someone, the amount of available resources is shown in the upper left, along with two gold numbers separated by a slash. The first number is the amount of honor you gain for earning THREE stars, and the second number is the amount of honor you will LOSE for earning none.
One and Two stars will earn you a percentage of the first number in honor.LootAny time you attack another player, there will be a little icon floating above their Castle, this will be one of 12 items, 6 for attack, and 6 for defense. By destroying their Castle, you will collect said item. If you collect all 6 Attack items, you will get a Mercenary camp which allows you to deploy free Samurai during every attack you participate in, including single player missions. There is no recharge time or cost on this ability. If you collect all 6 Defense items, you will get an extra cannon to defend your base.
Both of these items last for two days only, and can both be upgraded for more/better of what it is that the do. You can pay gems to target people with the specific items you are missing if you want.Upgrading Your BaseGenerally you should upgrade everything to it's max level before proceeding to the next Castle level.
Exceptions include Wells/Markets (only at higher levels), walls, and perhaps Blacksmith/Temple upgrades for troops or scrolls you don't use. I'm looking at you snowball scroll! Curiously, the Ram has no castle/max level limitations so in theory you could upgrade your rams to max as soon as you unlock the blacksmith. However the cost of the upgrades is limited by your storage capacity, so I guess you can't. It's just strange that the Rams limits function differently than every other unit in the game.Donating TroopsUnlike CoC, donated troops aren't all that effective on defense, I haven't decided why this is, but they just haven't made that much of an impact while watching replays of people assaulting me. In any case, good troops to donate to lower level dudes are Archers, Mongols, and Essence Masters. Getting an essence master for offense at low Castle Levels will wreck opposing bases and is super fun.Alliance WarsYou can declare war with your alliance in this game to earn you diamonds and clan perks.
Once the Shogun or one of the Generals declares war, you are pitted against four other Alliances. Whoever earns the most war points during the next 12 hours the winner. War points are earned the same was as honor is, when you are inspecting an opponent and are at war, you will see a second set of numbers in red underneath the honor earned/lost for the attack. This is the war points you will earn/lose for your clan for victory and defeat. In the last clan I was in, the Shogun would ask everyone to drop their honor as low as possible to prepare for war, this allows you to earn many more war points for easier attacks than if you fight people of higher levels. Opening the clan window (on the left side of the screen) and pressing the little crossed swords button will let you see the leaderboard for war points earned/lost during this war.The nicest thing about the Alliance wars in this game is that your level and experience vs the other Alliances has little or nothing to do with the outcome. A clvl 3 guy who raids a bunch of other guys his level can earn just as many (or more!) war points as a clvl 9.Special EventsEvery week or so, there will be a little news bulletin saying they're running some type of special event.
Your Shogun can enroll you in said event, and for the next amount of time (usually 12 hours) you will be able to earn war points again. This time however, you are not pitted against other Alliances, but against yourselves.
You'll see an ascending meter of war points, which various rewards at certain numbers accumulated, which ear you different rewards at each benchmark. Sometimes it's bonus resources, other times its super powerful defensive structures that last for week, like super drum guns or super lightning towers.
I've also earned Mercenary camps that drop Mongols instead of Samurai (this was awesome). For Easter they ran a dragon egg event where, depending on your war points accumulated, you would earn an increasingly powerful Dragon Egg which would sit around your base. Once the attackers broke it, a dragon popped out and started killing everything. Pretty cool.McSpankWich fucked around with this message at 03:16 on Apr 26, 2014Apr 25, 2014 19:55.AdbotADBOT LOVES YOU. It might be done off honor? It will show me ridiculous level 20 players castles and I get steamrolled by attacks with heavily upgraded troops and spells.Carecat fucked around with this message at 20:40 on May 4, 2014May 1, 2014 19:30.McSpankWich Aug 31, 2005Plum Island Animal Disease Research Center.
Sounds charming. So in this game there is no downside to constantly being at war, as you don't have to do anything other than play the game normally to participate, and there is no downside to losing. So far were 1-1 so that's better than I thought actually.
If you guys want to set up a consistent 12 hour block to be at war where the most people are active, we can just declare every day and if we win some then woo free gems. So far 3 of us are on EST, if that's pretty standard across the board, we could probably do like Noon-Midnight as war times each day. Where is everyone else/what time works for you?May 2, 2014 11:57.TouchyMcFeely Aug 21, 2006. Meowtotal noob who just started thanks to your post in the CoC thread (you fucker), applying as Buttes.
Just 'Buttes.' Any general advice regarding base layout for the super low levels?MY PALE GOTH SKIN fucked around with this message at 06:52 on May 18, 2014May 18, 2014 06:40.McSpankWich Aug 31, 2005Plum Island Animal Disease Research Center.
Sounds charming. If you wall in your archer towers and put them in the center of everything else you'll pretty much be unassailable to low level players, until they get commanders at least.May 18, 2014 09:39.MY PALE GOTH SKIN Nov 28, 2006.
